On Thursday evening, the FBI released video of the joint operation with the Oregon State Troopers that ended with the death of rancher LaVoy Finicum. The uneditied video shows the moments leading up to Finicum’s death, then federal agents taking the vehicle’s other occupants into custody, and it’s terrifying to say the least.
For those unaware, Finicum was the leader of the occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, and he along with Ammon Bundy were en route to a local meeting when agents conducted a sting operation to take them into custody. Finicum was shot and killed by agents after he fled the initial scene of the stop, but there’s been varying accounts of what happened.
While the video offers much insight into the moments prior to Finicum’s, there’s still more questions than answers as to why agents chose to open fire, especially since Finicum appears to have been surrendering just before he was killed.
