The Russian witch hunt just took a terrifying turn for President Trump and his supporters.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller has numerous conflicts of interest, yet for some reason he’s been allowed to remain on the case, even after hiring 16 Democrat-connected attorneys. Meanwhile, the President has claimed the whole ordeal to be a witch hunt, which many people believe it is; however, this witch hunt is getting ugly.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, Mueller has officially impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate alleged collusion with the Russian.
This can’t be a good thing.
From the WSJ:
Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury in Washington to investigate Russia’s interference in the 2016 elections, a sign that his inquiry is growing in intensity and entering a new phase, according to people familiar with the matter.
The grand jury, which began its work in recent weeks, is a sign that Mr. Mueller’s inquiry is ramping up and that it will likely continue for months. Mr. Mueller is investigating Russia’s efforts to influence the 2016 election and whether President Donald Trump’s campaign or associates colluded with the Kremlin as part of that effort.
According to several legal experts, this signifies that Mueller may be bringing about large-scale prosecutions.
“This is yet a further sign that there is a long-term, large-scale series of prosecutions being contemplated and being pursued by the special counsel,” said Stephen I. Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas. “If there was already a grand jury in Alexandria looking at Flynn, there would be no need to reinvent the wheel for the same guy. This suggests that the investigation is bigger and wider than Flynn, perhaps substantially so.”
Thomas Zeno, a federal prosecutor for 29 years before becoming a lawyer at the Squire Patton Boggs law firm, said the grand jury is “confirmation that this is a very vigorous investigation going on.”
“This doesn’t mean he is going to bring charges,” Mr. Zeno cautioned. “But it shows he is very serious. He wouldn’t do this if it were winding down.”
Another sign the investigation is ramping up: Greg Andres, a top partner in a powerhouse New York law firm, Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, has joined Mr. Mueller’s team.
Again, this isn’t good. Andres worked for the Justice Department under Eric Holder, at the same time the Fast & Furious scandal was in the works. Worse yet, almost all of Mueller’s legal team has donated to Democrats causes over the years, leading many to suspect that they’ve been brought in aas political hitmen.
The news of Mueller’s move comes at the same time it’s being reported that Kushner Companies, owned by the family of Jared Kushner, have been subpoenaed over alleged abuse of the “golden visa” program. Although it’s unclear if the subpoenas are related to Special Counsel Mueller’s work.
Kushner Companies, a property development business owned by White House adviser Jared Kushner’s family, has been subpoenaed over a ‘golden visa’ program.
Federal prosecutors issued a subpoena, which includes a request for emails to be turned over, regarding the company’s development One Journal Square in Jersey City, New Jersey, according to a source who spoke to the Wall Street Journal.
It remains unclear what potential violations are being investigated, and the company’s general counsel Emily Wolf said the company had complied with the rules of the program.
Again, this whole ordeal is not good.
