On Thursday evening Paul Ryan held a town hall style event with CNN, and he had an ominous warning for so-called sanctuary cities under the incoming administration.
For the past eight years, leftist-run cities have been harboring illegal aliens with impunity thanks to Barack Obama’s desire for open borders and refusal to enforce our nation’s laws. However, under a Trump administration that’s going to change, and it appears he’s going to have the full support of House Republicans to change it.
Breitbart News is reporting that during his even last night, Ryan didn’t mince words when warning sanctuary cities that if they continue with their illegal activities, they’re going to have to explain to their residents why their federal funding dried up. While there are issues in which Ryan and the president-elect disagree, apparently stripping funding from cities that harbor illegal aliens isn’t one of them, and Ryan was sure to make that clear.
“Sanctuary cities are a violation of the rule of law and they are not to be tolerated. … And that means if you want federal assistance, you’re not going to get it,” Ryan said. “You’ve got to enforce the law.”
Ryan went on to say that sanctuary cities are “not to be tolerated,” and that they can expect to kiss their federal assistance goodbye if they don’t come into compliance with the law.
“Donald and I agree completely on that. There is no daylight between us on that. So, what do I mean that? Sanctuary cities are a violation of the rule of law and they are not to be tolerated.”
“We agree with that 100%,” added Ryan. “And that means if you want federal assistance, you’re not going to get it. You’ve got to enforce the law.”
Currently, the Congress is working on a couple of major policy issues, Ryan said – border security and the enforcement of deportation laws with respect to criminal illegals. He also added that border security is on the list of the top six agenda items he’d like to get accomplished during Trump’s first year in office.
