CNN is having a horrible month.

First, it was forced to fire two employees after their anti-Trump stunts went too far, then it was outed for publishing a very fake news story, all of which happened before two of its producers were caught on video admitting the Russia story is totally bogus. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the network then got into a spat with President Trump over a satirical video, which led to it blackmailing a young Internet user into apologizing for creating the GIF, and now CNN could be facing federal charges for attempting to silence someone’s right to free speech.

The controversy erupted when CNN’s Andrew Kaczynski bragged that CNN was able to track down the Internet user, who some claim is as young as 15, but refrained from publishing his information because he apologized for offending the liberals who work at the network. At the end of the statement, they gave an ominous disclaimer that could lead to some serious trouble.

“CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change,” the statement read.

The “that” being referenced in the statement is the private citizen’s promise that he won’t publish or otherwise create anything CNN finds offensive, which basically amounts to blackmailing and coercion. Upon realizing his grave, and illegal, error, Kaczynski attempted to claim that the apology came before CNN contacted the person, despite the fact the statement clearly said that CNN’s efforts are what caused the person to apologize.

Julian Assange, the creator of Wikileaks, weighed in on the matter by first noting how CNN broke New York criminal code regarding coercion.

Upon more research, Assange then tweeted that CNN appeared to violate federal penal laws as well. He tweeted that 18 U.S. Code § 241 prohibits two or more people from conspiring to oppress the First Amendment rights of another, which CNN clearly seems to have done by threatening to “dox” – publicly disclose the private information of someone to threaten or intimidate them – the person responsible for creating the hilarious video.

As you would imagine, Internet users on both the left and right weren’t too happy about this display of leftist fascism from CNN.

Fox News’ Greg Gutfeld had the best take on the situation.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

It remains to be seen whether or not CNN faces any legal troubles over their deliberate attempt to silence a private citizen; however, the door is wide open for it, and it would be great to see both the victim and the Justice Department make an example of the network to finally put an end to the relentless bullying from the left.
