On Friday, Democratic Socialist Bernie Sanders was speaking to a crowd in Portland, Oregon, and things didn’t exactly go as planned. As the senior citizen senator was speaking, the crowd went into a frenzy after the unthinkable happened right before their very eyes.
Apparently, there’s a sketch comedy show called “Portlandia,” which is obviously based in Portland. Well, the show made the “put a bird on it” slogan famous, and on Friday, it was as if the cosmic stars aligned and wouldn’t you know it – a damn bird landed on Sanders’ podium.

The little bird, which looks like a tree pipit, quickly became an Internet sensation after people made the connection between the unlikely incident and the comedy show.

Of course, Sanders’ inner-hippie came out after the little bird landed on his podium and seemed to listen to what he was saying, and he told the audience “That bird really is a dove asking us for world peace.”
