On Saturday, President Trump threatened to remove Obamacare subsidies for both members of Congress and insurance companies alike, and one Democrat senator has a serious problem with it.

The President tweeted that “If a new HealthCare Bill is not approved quickly, BAILOUTS for Insurance Companies and BAILOUTS for Members of Congress will end very soon,” we previously reported, which had many question just how serious his threat was. Apparently, Sen. Tim Murphy of Connecticut took it very seriously, and he took to Twitter to publicly freak out about President Trump’s plan to strip Congress of its special treatment.

“This is a clear threat to Congress: pass my health bill or as punishment I will end health care for you, your staff, & your constituents,” Murphy tweeted.

The Senator then argued that he believes President Trump has the “power to cut off health care for leg branch employees & crater exchanges,” a move he thinks makes for a “very serious moment.”

Of course it’s a serious moment, for him – he’s about to lose his special subsidies that allow him to pay less than his civilian counterpart would.

According to the Independent Journal, Fox News reporter Ed Henry pointed out that the President’s supporters enjoy his tweeting because he often exposes the hypocritical nature of lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, and Americans are fed up with them.

Henry also explained that members of Congress created a special rule for themselves to make paying for health insurance for them and their staffs less expensive – a luxury none of us are afforded.

“What they were saying is, ‘We want a little special carve-out,’” Henry said. “Now, will the president be able to do away with that? Who knows. Maybe it’s just rhetoric. But he is pointing out that these lawmakers, who didn’t have the courage of their convictions … he’s saying, ‘Maybe I am going to expose your special deal.’”

Henry believes the President’s message “resonates” with many Americans, and he’s right.

For as long as I can remember, members of Congress have had the “do as I say” attitude when it comes to the rest of the country, all while they enjoy privileges and perks none of us are allowed. Thankfully, we have a President willing to call them out on their hypocrisy, and their hypocrisy runs deeper than the Grand Canyon.
