Ever since Hillary Clinton was cleared of all charges related to her use of a private email server people have questioned whether or not the FBI would be looking into the Clinton Foundation’s alleged corruption. Well, it turns out that it is, and they ditched someone major to make it happen.
When FBI Director James Comey announced that “no reasonable prosecutor” would bring charges against Hillary for her deliberate malfeasance as Secretary of State, it became abundantly clear that Obama’s Justice Department has become as corrupt as the rest of his agencies, thus removing all hope that the Clinton Foundation would face a corruption probe. However, our hopes have just been renewed, and not only is there a major probe into the Clinton Foundation, the FBI has made a major departure from how it would normally investigate it.
According to a report from the Daily Caller, a former senior law enforcement officer revealed that the bureau is working with U.S. Attorneys in New York City – where the Clinton Foundation’s main offices are – for prosecutorial support in the investigation. Not only that, the lead prosecutor in the case is Preet Bharara, a U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who’s successfully convicted banks, hedge fund managers, and Wall Street insiders along with prominent politicians.
In other words, he’s aggressive and he knows what he’s doing.
According to the official, the involvement of the U.S. Attorney’s Office “would be seen by agents as a positive development as prosecutors there are generally thought to be more aggressive than the career lawyers within the DOJ.”
Also less corrupt since there further away from D.C., I might add.
Here’s some information on Bharara, according to his official biography:
“As U.S. Attorney, Mr. Bharara has applied renewed focus on large-scale, sophisticated financial frauds by creating two new units – the Complex Frauds Unit and the complementary Civil Frauds Unit. The Civil Frauds Unit has collected close to $500 million in settlements since its inception, including multi-million dollar settlements with Deutsche Bank and CitiMortgage for faulty lending practices and other fraudulent conduct.”
Here’s more on the investigation from the Caller [emphasis mine]:
Bharara is best known for securing convictions of prominent political figures, including former New York State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Silver had a seemingly intractable grip on power in the state for decades. He was convicted of accepting $4 million in exchange for helping a cancer researcher and two real estate developers.
He also secured the conviction of New York Republican Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who was sentenced to five years in prison for corruption.
The former official said the investigation is being coordinated between bureau field offices and FBI managers at headquarters in Washington, D.C. The unusual process would ensure senior FBI supervisors, including Director James Comey, would be kept abreast of case progress and of significant developments.
The reliance on U.S. attorneys would be a significant departure from the centralized manner in which the FBI managed the investigation of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private server and email addresses.
That investigation was conducted with agents at FBI headquarters, who coordinated with the Department of Justice’s National Security Division (NSD).
This time around, it appears as if Hillary and her foundation aren’t going to be receiving the same protection they were given during her email probe. It was obvious the last time around that the fix was in before the investigation was even concluded, as was evidenced by Bill Clinton having a clandestine meeting with Loretta Lynch on the tarmac and refusing to let anyone witness it, but with U.S. Attorneys doing the prosecutorial work, she might not get a pass this time.
In fact, it could be reasonably argued that the FBI did an end around on the Justice Department for that very reason – they wanted to ensure that their investigation wasn’t tainted by Washington politics. With that said, it looks like we may finally get to see Bill and Hillary held accountable for years upon years worth of corruption that has cost our nation gravely.
Tell me that’s not an exciting thought.
