Two-time failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s donors can’t be happy right now.
They dumped insane amounts of money into the campaign of the worst candidate to ever run, and all they ended up getting was a safe space in New York City for them to gather and console one another. I know I’d be upset if that were me, especially after how much it cost them.
Too bad there’s no refunds, eh?
According to Breitbart News, the first woman in history to consecutively lose the two races she ran in spent a whopping $1.2 BILLION on her shocking defeat against her opponent, President-elect Donald Trump. In just the last few weeks alone, the campaign laid out over $131 million in a last-ditch effort to secure the White House, and she ended up having around $839,000 left when all was said and done.
To the contrary, Trump, who didn’t solicit corporate donations and spent $66 million of his own money on his campaign, dished out about half of what Clinton did to take home the victory. The New York Post is reporting that the Trump campaign’s road to the White House cost about $600 million, with around $94 million being spent in the home stretch, and he closed out the race with $7.6 million in the bank.
Not too shabby.
When broken down, Trump received around 63 million votes from all over the country, which cost him about $9.50 apiece. Hillary, on the other hand, received the majority of her 65.5 million votes from just a few highly concentrated areas along the coasts and in solid blue states like Illinois, and they cost her about $18.30 apiece.
Now here’s the twist to it all. Last year, critics warned Trump he needed to raise and spend over a billion dollars to even be competitive in the race. Trump shrugged them off at the time and said “there’s no reason to raise that,” which earned him even more criticism.
But as it turns out, he was right…again.
