A liberal reporter apparently threatened to run a story on presidential hopeful Donald Trump, accusing him of rape, and when Trump’s lawyer found out, all hell broke loose.
Daily Beast “journalist” Tim Mak allegedly threatened to expose sexual assault accusations made back in the early 90s against The Donald by his former wife, Ivana Trump, during an ugly divorce, and suffice it to say, Trump’s lawyer didn’t take the threat too lightly, TheBlaze reported.
“You write a story that has Mr. Trump’s name in it, with the word ‘rape,’ and I’m going to mess your life up…for as long as you’re on this frickin’ planet … you’re going to have judgments against you, so much money, you’ll never know how to get out from underneath it,” Michael Cohen, special counsel to Trump, allegedly told Mak.
Mak was referring to the allegations made against the billionaire during a deposition in 1989, where Ivana claimed that Donald was upset after a painful scalp surgery and confronted her over it, saying “you’re f**king doctor has ruined me.” Ivana then reportedly claimed that she was sexually assaulted by Donald, the 1993 book, “Lost Tycoon: The Many Lives of Donald J. Trump,” alleges. However, Trump has repeatedly denied the accusations, and when asked about them on Monday, Cohen unloaded on Mak for bringing them up.
“It’s not the word you’re trying to make it into,” Cohen said, adding that Ivana wasn’t referring to what happened as a criminal matter, but that she “felt raped emotionally.” The real estate tycoon’s lawyer then levied his own threats against Mak, warning him what would happen if he ran the smear piece on Trump.
“I will make sure that you and I meet one day while we’re in the courthouse. And I will take you for every penny you still don’t have. And I will come after your Daily Beast and everybody else that you possibly know,” Cohen said. “So I’m warning you, tread very f****ing lightly, because what I’m going to do to you is going to be f***ing disgusting. You understand me?”
Cohen, continued, saying there’s “nothing reasonable” about wanting to write a story about the way someone used the word “rape,” especially when they were talking about not feeling “emotionally satisfied.”
“Though there’s many literal senses to the word, if you distort it, and you put Mr. Trump’s name there onto it, rest assured, you will suffer the consequences. So you do whatever you want. You want to ruin your life at the age of 20? You do that, and I’ll be happy to serve it right up to you,” continued Cohen, before antagonizing the liberal writer.
“I think you should go ahead and you should write the story that you plan on writing. I think you should do it. Because I think you’re an idiot. And I think your paper’s a joke, and it’s going to be my absolute pleasure to serve you with a $500 million lawsuit, like I told [you] I did it to Univision,” said Cohen.
TheBlaze noted that on Monday night, the Daily Beast ran with the story and published it to their website. There’s no word on what Trump plans to do about it, and when his campaign was contacted for comment, there was no immediate reply.
There’s two things about this story that stick out to me; one, I’m not a big fan of bully tactics to keep people quiet, and this seems like dangerous territory for a presidential candidate, but I don’t exactly blame them either. Two, I don’t think it’s right for these liberal journalists to write hit pieces to try to assassinate the character of people they don’t like, and that seems like the exact goal of Mak, who thinks something from the 80s, which has long been settled, needs to be brought to light again.
With both things in mind, it’s good on Cohen to let the reporter know that if he tries to smear Trump, there will be consequences. It’s about time that these weasel journalists be taken to task for publishing lies just because they don’t like someone, and if there’s anybody who’s going to do it, Trump seems to be the perfect person.
