For months, Barack Obama has bragged about his “success” in opening diplomatic relations with the communist dictatorship in Cuba after a decades-long embargo. But what happened as soon as he stepped off the plane speaks volumes about what’s really going on.
The Obama family landed in the small island nation on Sunday evening, and while numerous dignitaries from the government were there to greet him, there was one person who was notably absent. Despite meeting just about every other world leader whose traveled to the nation on the tarmac, Cuba’s leader gave Obama a good old snub, much like the Queen of England recently did, and denied the first president to travel to the country in 90 years the valuable photo-op he so desperately wanted.
CBS New York has more:
Wielding an umbrella on a rainy Havana afternoon, Obama and his family stepped off of Air Force One and were greeted by top Cuban officials — but not Raul Castro.
The Cuban leader frequently greets major world figures upon their arrival at Jose Marti International Airport, but was absent on the tarmac.
Instead, he planned to greet Obama on Monday at the Palace of the Revolution.
Ouch. For such a historic visit, you’d think the nation’s top political leader would have been there to greet Obama upon his arrival. But apparently he wasn’t interested, and the incident definitely wasn’t lost on people, especially GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.
Wow, President Obama just landed in Cuba, a big deal, and Raul Castro wasn't even there to greet him. He greeted Pope and others. No respect

Raul Castro couldn't be at the airport to greet Obama because he had some dissidents to torture first.

For those wondering if it’s customary for Castro to greet leaders, most believe it is. The past two times he’s visited the country, Pope Francis was given a warm welcome by the communist dictator.

Of course, the White House downplayed the snub and said that Obama wasn’t offended by it. But we all know the truth – even Obama’s communist buddies have little respect for him.
