On Saturday evening, a federal judge in New York issues a stay on a part of President Trump’s executive order banning immigration from certain nations, but enforcing her stay is a completely different matter.
According to the New York Post, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) claims they’re receiving “multiple reports” that customs agents are giving Judge Ann Donnelly the finger and refusing to comply with her ruling. Apparently, the agents are siding with their president instead of some far-left judge attempting to create laws from the bench.
“The court’s order could not be clearer… they need to comply with the order,” Omar Jadwat, director of the ACLU’s Immigrants Rights project, told The Post late Saturday. “It’s enough to be a serious concern.”
For those unaware, Donnelly issued a stay Saturday night that prohibited the U.S. government from deporting people with visas despite the president having the authority to limit immigration however he sees fit. The move was seen as a victory for those protesting President Trump’s moratorium on immigration from terrorist hotbeds, but unless customs agents are willing to enforce it, the ruling means absolutely nothing.
Since issuing the ruling, it’s been revealed that Donnelly was appointed to the bench by Obama at the recommendation of N.Y. Sen. Chuck Schumer, a far-left political hack who’s promised to obstruct the president whenever he can. The revelation has led many to believe her decision was based more on politics than actual law, especially since the president is specifically granted the authority ro do what he did in the Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1952.
